Every leader has to deal with paradoxes in business. Balancing opposites is the key to being a good leader. Whether its short term-long term paradox, or success vs failure, they all shape businesses and leaders into who they’re supposed to be.
Newly appointed managers/ leaders often get confused as to how they can fulfill short term targets while doing what’s in best interest for the company in the long run as well. And that’s the job - figuring out how to balance micro targets with macro objectives. One thing that usually helps is good old fashioned planning. Plan out where you want the business to be in 5 years, then break down that main goal into targets for each year. Go ahead and further break that into monthly estimates, or whatever period is manageable. Now focus on achieving these targets at the minimum required pace, rest will work itself out.
